There has to have been something wrong with that kill. My mind is still functioning, but my body seems to do whatever it damn well pleases, and I haven’t managed to shift in a week. It’s the only explanation for why I am getting ready to marry that harpy when all I want to do is run away and find my mate. My desperate need for Merissa is the only thing grounding me and keeping me sane. Sometimes I think I can hear her in my mind. It’s like she’s close, but I can’t find her. My men are staying away from me. They know I’ve been compromised, I’m sure. Jer managed to get into my head a few days ago, it’s hard to remember our conversation, and maybe that’s best because I can’t figure out whether my thoughts are being read. He’s gone, though. I haven’t physically seen Jer in two days.

“Are you ready, my love?” A whiny voice breaks through the fuzz inside my head, and I turn. Without my conscious thought, my lips are pulled into a smile at the one person I know in my sane mind I would want to tear limb from limb. Her knowing grin belays the fact that she is convinced whatever spell she has put this castle under is now controlling my body. What Clara isn’t aware of is that my mind is relatively free. I’m now convinced that my brother and Melody are also likely trapped inside their heads. I see the slight differences in their demeanours, the subtle clenching of fists or looks of confusion that others may miss.

There are more witches in the castle as well. I’ve seen them arrive as I sit at my window each night, staring out across the grounds to the surrounding woods. My wolf howls in the distance inside my mind, desperate to get out. I sense that if I could just leave the castle and shift, that it might help, but I can’t seem to make my body follow my mind’s commands. I’m not even able to walk the passages or enter the lower parts of the castle. My body appears to be confined to certain areas and wanders the same spaces over and over again.

“Come now, Kay, we need to get dressed for the banquet tonight. You haven’t even begun to get ready.” Clara pouts at me. Internally I hear the distant growl of my wolf as it prowls around, wanting to attack. Outwardly my mouth and body move of their own volition.

“Maybe I was just waiting for your help?” What the actual fuck? Since when did I need help getting dressed? A knowing look crosses her pretty features. No, I do not think that she is pretty. Where the hell did that thought come from. She’s too skinny, has no tits and the evil that lives within her shows on the outside. I remind myself of Clara’s many faults as she approaches me. Hands that feel wrong on my skin run themselves up my bare chest.
